Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests detect genetic material (ribonucleic acid or RNA) of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The PCR test has been the gold standard test for diagnosing COVID-19 because it is an accurate and reliable test. This test is administered as a nasopharyngeal swab.
Antigen COVID-19 tests detect proteins from the virus. Antigen tests are very specific for the virus, but are not as sensitive as molecular tests. This means that a positive result is highly accurate, but a negative result does not rule out infection. This test is administered as a nasal swab.
Respiratory illnesses like the common cold, flu, or even COVID-19 can have similar symptoms – runny nose, coughing, sneezing, congestion, headache, fever, and fatigue. These illnesses require different treatments – depending on whether they’re caused by bacteria or viruses. This RT-PCR Panel tests for the following pathogens, including COVID-19: Adenovirus, Coronavirus 229E, Coronavirus HKU1, Coronavirus NL63, Coronavirus OC43, Human Metapneumovirus, Human Rhinovirus/Enterovirus, Influenza A, Influenza A/H1, Influenza A/H3, Influenza A/H1-2009, Influenza B, Parainfluenza Virus, Respiratory Syncytial Virus, Bordetella pertussis, Bordetella parapertussis, Chlamydia pneumoniae, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae. This test is administered as a nasopharyngeal swab.
The serology (blood) test measures the level of antibodies in people who have been exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, including those who have received COVID-19 vaccines. This test determines what level or how much of the COVID-19 antibodies an individual has produced. The test is performed by Boston Medical Diagnostics.
For optimal results, individuals are encouraged to wait at least three weeks following an infection or a vaccination before having an antibody test. The antibodies increase significantly within three weeks after the first injection, and the values are considerably higher after the second dose.
This test detects and differentiates influenza type A and type B antigens from a nasal or nasopharyngeal swab.
This test detects Group A Streptococcal antigen from a throat swab.
